What is Remedial Massage

You have pain and constricted mobility. Remember the story of Fascia. The concept of how sailing boats have ‘standing rigging’ and ‘running rigging’ works well for your body. Your ‘mast’ is a bit more complicated – your spine, and then all that hangs off it. Fascia takes the strain like rigging. If you bend, one side goes tight, one side relaxes – but what if the rigging is out whack? Tilt…

Muscles come into play, try to compensate – but they can get messed up too!! Injury, spasm, cramp, RSI (repetitive strain injuries). A bit more elaborate, but muscle movement is helped by sheathing of associated groups. That can ‘glue’ – that’s what superficial myofascial cupping is for.

It started with work, or play, or stress, or injury… It triggered from mind games and emotional turmoil of one form or another – that’s counselling territory… We start with a systematic assessment to identify not only where is your pain, but also your posture and what are the root causes. If we don’t get to root causes, you’ll be complaining or not coming back…

Your body is shaped in a complex structure of skeleton, tendons, muscles, ligaments, fascia. Things get seriously out of whack!!

Remedial Massage can put things back in whack.

A Remedial Massage session can include Trigger Point Manipulation in fascia, muscle and tendon, Myofascial Release (hand or cupping), Muscle Energy Stimulation (includes hand, hot stone and low level laser), Deep Tissue release.

Remedial Massage is a sophisticated therapy, holistically treating the whole of body structures focussed upon immediate relief and long term healing – WE EVEN GIVE YOU HOMEWORK!  Clients leave energised. A good sign is volume in repeat bookings.

Special needs are met where surgeries have disrupted the lymphatic system – Lymphatic Decongestion and Drainage techniques, including bandaging. If you’ve come out of a physio or a chiro, we have to consider what they are doing to you, and how it all fits together. Pregnancy considerations are also integrated into therapies.

So the moral of this story is… make sure your massage therapist is up to speed with the modern understanding of how integrated are the  soft tissues and skeletal formations, and how the techniques have become more sophisticated to address underlying structural needs.
